What is Recreation Therapy?
Recreation Therapy is a process that enables all individuals to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful participation in recreation and leisure. A Recreation Therapist will work with persons with disabilities and/or limitations who require assistance to improve their quality of life.
Rec therapists use recreation and leisure to help maximize an individual’s independence and improve functioning, Rec Therapists make necessary adaptations to recreation and leisure opportunities to allow for full participation and inclusion.
Rec Therapists educate individuals about the skills and resources required to participate in recreation and leisure so that they can continue their personal optimal health and happiness journey, independently and throughout their lives.
What does Rec Therapy and wellness coaching look like?
I will work with you to find the best therapeutic activities for you, based on your individual goals, needs, and strengths. The ideas for streams of therapy are endless, things such as writing, theatre, dance, swimming, gardening, nature hikes, meditation, journaling, creative arts, social connections, physical fitness, attention to nutrition, and yoga, to name a few, are all forms of therapeutic recreation.
